DOUBLE-BLIND and PEAKS took the form of exposés/ displays. Fragments of objects and moving image were lifted and scrutinised to create fictional settings; with objects and mise-en-scene performing as vessels of possible occurrences. In both exhibitions the underlying structures took the form of “genres” instead of working styles, exploring narrative forms and relations occurring in crime fiction (with reference to the New Novel), science fiction and romantic melodramas. Using “genres” instead of more precise themes as points of departure and syntax, allowed us to construct structures within which the works could develop through free-association and in some cases the appropriation or borrowing of each others visual cues and technical methods.
