In this commissioned work I use latex, varnish and inks to reference rugs and screens, both historically and in relation to personal movements and habitation in various countries and homes. Rolled and unrolled, rugs form the initial act of marking a home for nomads. Hung from the walls of tents, they depict narratives and track a history of communal craft.
I have bought and used many rolls of rubber sheeting. The rolls, expose finger and hand prints of those have handled them: packers, manufacturers, and movers. The oils permanently mark the rubber, and the fingerprints decorate the edges like the borders of rugs.
